| GDYNIA, POLAND-(4-8-2003) It is around 50 000 EUR that competitors will race for starting from
Tuesday, when they all set on the waters of the Bay of Gdansk. They are
going to compete for Idea Gdynia Sailing Days World Cup.
- It is uncommon amount of money concerning regattas in the Middle Europe -
Jerzy Wieczorek , president of the Race Sailing Association assured everyone
on the press conference that was held today.
Until this afternoon there have been 200 competitors who have entered the
regatta. However the organizers hope that tomorrow there will be two times
more competitors on the entry list.
- According to the information we have been receiving from sailors, over 400
competitors is going to take part in the regatta - says Andrzej Mielicki,
director of the Idea Gdynia sailing Days.
At the press conference there were also present Paweł Kuźmicki and Paweł
Kacprowski - competitors of the Olympic 49er class.
- We couldn't come to Gdynia last year because of the pre-Olympic regatta -
said Kacprowski. - This year we will do our best during the races. It is one
of the elements in preparations to the World Championships and to the
Olympic Games in Athens ,next year.
There were also sponsors representatives taking part in the press
conference.
One of the new thing this year are the floating tribunes. Everyone can watch
the sailors' struggle from the ferries.
- I'm sure it will make our regatta much more attractive - Jerzy Wieczorek
adds.
The boats for spectators are to be available from Tuesday till Saturday (11
a.m. - 4 p.m.). They sail out from the ferry dock, at the Kościuszki Square,
in Gdynia.
The official opening ceremony starts on Tuesday at 7 p.m. 'Rema Band' plays
at the live concert. And the closing ceremony, on the other hand is to take
place on the Grunwaldzki Square at 7 p.m. The star of the closing event is
'Róże Europy' band. You can also purchase a special postcard edited on the
occasion of the fourth edition of Idea Gdynia sailing Days. The postcards
'limited series was prepared by Polish Post (the official sponsor) Dyrekcja
Okręgu Poczty Pol).The postcard is available in the post offices around Tri
City, and on August 8th and 9th you can buy it at the Polish Post stand that
will be placed in Gdynia Marina.
Moreover, you can follow Idea Gdynia Sailing Days on TV. The five minute
reports will be broadast everyday on TVP 3 Gdansk (media supporter) at 10
p.m., except of August 7th. On that day the report will be broadcast at 7.10
p.m. The results will be also given on Eurosportnews, everyday.
